HISTORY

Our Story

Founder and Director of Education, Bessheen Baker, developed her interest in and love for natural health in childhood. Through the guidance of her mother, Bessheen began studying under herbalists, chiropractors, and naturopaths as a teenager, taking a special interest in nutrition, herbs, and the study of iridology. Early on, Bessheen discovered that very few educational institutions in natural health existed and from that awareness her life dream was formed: to build a school for true naturopathic training, where people of all age groups and educational backgrounds could come together and create a foundation of understanding for natural health and develop it into an art.

In 1995, after traveling the country for two years teaching natural health, Bessheen founded the Naturopathic Institute. Since then, over 100 graduating classes with students from all across the country have received diplomas and set forth to change the face of health in this country.

The Naturopathic Institute offers three areas of specialty: natural health, therapeutic massage, and assisting women in labor and delivery as a doula. The uniqueness and high quality of the school and its students are known nationwide. Instructors are highly respected within their individual disciplines and hold national accreditation. The growth of the Naturopathic Institute has been so rapid that it required moving to a larger facility located in downtown Mount Pleasant in the summer of 2008. Programs and training continue to develop as the student body continues to grow.
